Connect data to its origin
An analytical result should be attributable to the sample, batch, method, instrument sequence, analyst or laboratory, and date. Clear connections allow a reviewer to understand where a reported value came from.
Preserve context
A summary value is easier to assess when the chromatogram, spectrum, calculations, units, method reference, system-suitability record, and revision history remain available according to the laboratory's procedure.
Control corrections
Corrections should preserve the original entry, identify who made the change, record when it occurred, and explain why. Unexplained overwriting weakens the audit trail.
