Start at receipt
Record the date received, material name, supplier, batch identifier, container count, and initial condition. Link the receiving entry to the relevant documentation rather than relying on memory or email history.
Make location specific
Use a consistent freezer, refrigerator, cabinet, rack, box, and position convention. Specific locations reduce unnecessary handling and help teams reconcile physical inventory with their records.
Document changes
Transfers, preparation events, deviations, and final disposition should be recorded. A simple chronological history makes it easier to understand how a material was managed during its time in the laboratory.
