Educational scope: Laboratory documentation, analytical methods, and research recordkeeping only.
A certificate reports a result
A Certificate of Analysis typically identifies a specific batch and reports analytical results produced for that batch under stated methods or procedures.
A specification defines expectations
A specification sheet generally describes attributes, limits, or requirements associated with a material. It may not demonstrate that a particular batch was tested or met every listed requirement.
Use the documents together
Specifications help readers understand expected criteria, while the batch certificate shows the reported outcome for a particular lot. Both should be current, clearly identified, and linked to the correct material.
